In July 2023, a new rootzone layer was installed at the Allianz Arena in Munich. In just two weeks, heiler milled off the old turf, carefully removed the existing rootzone layer and installed its replacement. Laser-guided installation ensured that the new layer finished exactly 3.5 cm below the perimeter edging, allowing the turf subsequently laid on top to sit perfectly flush with the pitch surround.

Alongside the rootzone work, the artificial turf in front of the coaching zone and team benches was replaced. This required particular precision around the retractable entrance to the players’ tunnel. Substitutes now also have access to a heated natural-turf warm-up area beside the pitch, integrated into the artificial-turf surround alongside the touchline.
